Nippon
Armoured anti-large spear infantry · T2 · the backbone of the line
Yari Samurai
长枪武士
Bound by honour and scorning defeat, these spearmen fight to the last, prizing renown in life and honour in death.
Background
The warrior sets great store by the name he bears through this one life, and holds defeat the deepest shame. Keepers of a stern code of honour, such men spend their last strength without reserve to win a name unstained after death. From youth the warriors of Nippon are tempered in the way of blade and bow, day upon day, until flesh and blood are forged into instruments of slaughter beyond the common lot. Upon the field each keeps his station: some draw the bow as light troops, some bear the blade in heavy armour, some ride swift horses in the charge, and not a few answer the foe with the teppo. Yet the belief in destiny is rooted deep in such men. It is said that one warrior in ten counts death in battle the highest glory, and would gladly be made one with the divine wind. Thus, when two hosts close, though beset before and behind, the samurai have no thought of retreat: to fall back is to see one's name broken; to die is to see it endure forever.
